Description MACHA 1972 This is lithograph prints, size 20”x30”, printed on high-quality gloss art paper. Of all of my early posters these two were among my very best artistically and the seeds of my later, more elaborate, Celtic artwork were well and truly sown here in 1972 with these two works. The influence of Mucha was slowly permeating my work and these two are classics of their time -and sold superbly. One reason was simple -they were nearly always bought as a set. The nudity passed without notice save for one minor condemnation in our national press but that was normal in those days. Macha and Morrigan were both beautiful war goddesses of the legendary Tuatha Dé Danann and were, together with the war-goddess Nemain, were known collectively as ‘The Babhb’ ferocious Valkyrie-type harbingers of death, destruction, and ultimate doom.
