Description OISIN AT ROYAL TARA Link to print NESSA THE HUNTER Link to print FINNCHEOM, PRINCESS OF ULSTER Link to print Finnchoem was a warrior-princess of Ulster and a sister of Dechtíre, mother of CuChulainn. She was famed for her hunting and combat skills and her son, Conall Cearnach, was one of the greatest of the later warriors of Ulster, defending it from predatory Gaels who invaded again and again from the south. The dolmen portrayed stands today near the Cavehill Mountain in Belfast and is known as ‘The Giant’s Ring’. POULNABRONE DOLMEN Link to print NIGHTLIGHT Link to print A welcoming light guides the traveler across the snowy landscape towards the warmth of a night’s shelter in the old abbey. WINTER RABBIT IN SNOW Link to print WINTER. GEIMHREIDH. 1982. Geimhreidh=Gaelic for ‘Winter’. This snow painting -and the related story of mine titled ‘The Savage Rabbit’ -was commissioned by the late Claire Boylan for Image magazine in Ireland in the middle of the famous ‘Irish Blizzard’ of 1982. Outside the snow was piled so high I could not get out anywhere but it did inspire this artwork of a snow scene contrasting the alert indifference of the little rabbit beside the ancient dolmen to the mighty warriors crossing the frozen landscape in the distance.
