Wormwood is perhaps best known as the primary ingredient in absinthe, a highly alcoholic spirit that was popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Absinthe was associated with artistic and bohemian culture but was also controversial due to its purported hallucinogenic effects and potential health risks. It was banned in many countries but has since been legalized in most places with regulated thujone content. Besides absinthe, wormwood is used in small amounts to flavour other alcoholic beverages, such as vermouth and bitters. Its use in culinary applications is limited due to its intense bitterness.   How to Brew Artemisia absinthium (Wormwood) Tea Heat water to a boil. Use 1/2 to 1 tsp of Wormwood herb for each cup of water. Pour the water over the tea, cover and leave to infuse for 5-10 minutes.
