Description Acorus tatarinowii rhizome, commonly known as Shi Chang Pu in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is commonly used for central nervous system disorders and dementia. It is an aromatic botanical traditionally used to support mental clarity, focus, and emotional wellbeing. The dried rhizome has been valued in Chinese herbal practice for centuries for its distinctive fragrance and wide range of traditional applications. Traditionally, Acorus tatarinowii is used to help clear mental fog, support memory and concentration, and calm the mind during periods of stress or restlessness. In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is often included in herbal formulas intended to “open the orifices,” promote healthy circulation of Qi, and harmonise communication between the heart and mind. It is commonly prepared as a decoction, powdered into herbal formulas, or blended with complementary herbs in traditional preparations.   How to Brew Shi Chang Pu Tea Heat water to a boil in a small saucepan. Use the equivalate of 1 tsp for each cup of water. Add dried rhizome, cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Strain and add a sweetener of choice. The tea has a strong aromatic flavour that is earthy, spicy, and slightly bitter.
